Sunderland manager, Tony Mowbray has confirmed that Elliot Embleton will undergo surgery on a thigh injury, suffered while out on loan.
Heartbreak for the midfielder, who suffered another serious injury, last season, and spent eight months out of action.
The injury took place in a training session with Derby County where he did nothing more than take a corner.
It is said that the Englishman was reduced to tears following the event. A truly sad moment for him and everyone connected to him.
He was sent on loan to regain his match fitness and find some form following his injury. Sadly it hasn’t ended how anyone wanted.

What has Tony Mowbray said about Elliot Embleton?
It is a sad time for everyone at the club, especially given the injury Embleton has just returned from.
Discussing the injury, Mowbray said: “It’s a big blow for the boy
“I’ve had a long chat with him and he is obviously pretty down because had eight months out.”
Sending him out on loan was going to be his chance to return to fitness but that hasn’t transpired.
This idea was shared by Mowbray: “The reason he went out on loan was to try and give him some game time at a level that he would hopefully be able to play regularly at.”
When asked about the injury, the manager added: “It looks like he has popped his thigh muscle and I think it’s going to be a few months.”
The club are there for him and will help him to recover as well as he can.
Asked about his return, Mowbray added: “We have discussed with him coming back and having his rehab here so that he can be around everybody, and so he feels part of what we’re trying to do.”
It is an upsetting injury, but hopefully, he returns stronger than ever and can add to the side.
