Sunderland’s rotten luck with injuries continues to plague their season, with yet another name to add to the growing injury list.
Throughout this season, the Black Cats have missed the likes of Romaine Mundle, Tommy Watson, Alan Browne, and more recently, Enzo Le Fee, for months at a time.
Regis Le Bris has somehow managed to keep Sunderland in the hunt for automatic promotion, and a play-off berth looks all-but confirmed at this stage.
Just this week, an update on Ahmed Abdullahi and Jayden Danns spelled more bad news for the Mackems, but that’s not the end of it.

Trey Ogunsuyi suffers injury in training
He’s been one of the brightest sparks in a strong Sunderland academy squad this season, but Trey Ogunsuyi is now facing some time on the sidelines.
The young striker has been in fine form all season representing the Under-21 and Under-18, but was not in the squad for Sunderland’s Premier League Cup clash with Burnley on Monday night.
Responding to queries as to the absence, the club’s social media account confirmed: “Trey Ogunsuyi misses out due to a recent injury picked up in training. The 18-year-old is expected to return in the coming weeks.”
It is unclear what the nature of the injury is exactly at this stage, but the fact Ogunsuyi is out for weeks suggests it is a little more than a simple, innocuous knock.

Wil we see Trey Ogunsuyi in action this season?
Ogunsuyi has registered 13 goals and one assist in 13 games for the youth team this season, building on a mightily impressive campaign in 2023/24.
He’s been on the bench for the first-team a number of times this season, but has still only managed to get nine minutes of senior football under his belt, coming on as a late substitute in the FA Cup defeat to Stoke City.
The frustrating thing is, Sunderland’s depth in attack is weak at the moment, so having someone like Ogunsuyi stepping up could have been really useful in the backend of the season. Now, we may not see the youngster again before the campaign ends.
Still, there are high hopes for the Sunderland ‘starboy’ after his displays for the Under-21s. He’s even been linked with Liverpool, but Sunderland will be desperate for Ogunsuyi to continue his development on Wearside instead.
