Sunderland are flying high right now, but one of their best players has the potential to go even further, and if he does move on, he could bring a huge profit for the Black Cats.
With a third of the Championship campaign gone, we can now start to get a relatively good idea of which teams will be challenging at the top, and Sunderland are currently leading the way.
It’s tight at the summit, as it always is in the second tier, but Sunderland have made a very impressive start under Regis Le Bris, and have a genuine shot at promotion glory this season.
While the North East outfit have some real stars in their team, former manager Tony Mowbray has highlighted a lack of squad depth at Sunderland. Still, with players like Jobe Bellingham, that might not matter all that much.

Jobe Bellingham can go to the very top level
When looking at every Championship club and deciding which player they would sign, Benjamin Bloom and Sam Parkin at The Championship Check-In were waxing lyrical about Bellingham, and suggested he can go all the way to the top, just like his brother.
“I love his composure and maturity. He just looks like the complete footballer already,” Parkin said. “Even the mentality of his brother, I think you’ve got to throw in, there’s just something incredible about them, the way they carry themselves on and off the pitch.”
He added: “I’d be very surprised if Jobe doesn’t grow to be a seriously top player. I think Bellingham just looks like a leader already… He must be costing an arm and a leg when the time comes.
Bloom commented on the fact Sunderland have a very young squad, but said he is impressed with how those “players have stepped up,” and suggested Bellingham would now be “worth a small fortune.”

Jobe Bellingham might not be at Sunderland much longer
As with any exciting talent in the second tier, there is always the risk that bigger clubs will come knocking, and that certainly looks to be the case for Jobe Bellingham.
It has already been claimed that it is very unlikely Bellingham will stay at Sunderland for the long-term, but it will be interesting to see what happens if the Black Cats were to gain promotion to the Premier League this season.
| Statistic | Jobe Bellingham 2024/25 |
|---|---|
| Appearances | 13 |
| Minutes played | 1,137 |
| Goals | 2 |
| Assists | 1 |
| Pass completion | 86.6% |
| Shot-creating actions per 90 | 2.14 |
Bellingham has already been linked with Borussia Dortmund among others, and one would imagine Sunderland could cash in for a hefty profit on the £3m they paid for the youngster back in 2023.
Jobe Bellingham stepped up for the England Under-21s during this international break, and appears to be right on track to follow in his brother Jude’s footsteps in the future for club and country.
