Sunderland and Northern Ireland defender Trai Hume has recently been linked with a move to Turkish outfit Galatasaray.

Sunderland star Trai Hume, 22, is reported to be a player of interest at Galatasaray in Turkey.

Earlier this week, it was claimed that Sunderland had rejected a £7million bid for Hume from the Turkish giants.

Soon after, it was then claimed that Sunderland would require an offer of at least £10million to consider parting ways with Hume during this summer’s transfer window.

There’s suggestions that Sunderland insiders deny ever receiving any transfer offer for Hume this summer.

Whether or not Galatasaray really are interested in Hume, and whether they have submitted an offer, remains to be seen.

But interest in the right-back would be unsurprising given his standout 2023/24 season in the Championship.

Hume played in all 46 of his side’s Championship games and topped the league for tackles attempted and successful tackles.

News of Hume’s £10million price tag caused unrest on social media, with Sunderland fans valuing the player a lot higher than that amount.

Since, journalist Michael Graham has given his own verdict on the matter, suggesting that between £12-14million would be a fair fee for Hume.

Posting on X, Graham responded to a question of Archie Gray leaving Leeds United for Tottenham Hotspur in a £36million deal, and how it compares to Hume.

Sunderland paid Northern Irish side Linfield £200k for Hume in 2022 and they are due a 15% sell-on of any fee over £150k.

Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman may be wary of what is quite a substantial sell-on fee, and potentially hike up the price to ensure that Sunderland get their money’s worth for Hume, before paying Linfield their end.

The key question for Trai Hume amid Sunderland future uncertainty

Hume is certainly making huge strides in his development, having gone from playing in his native Northern Ireland just two years ago, to now being linked with a top European club in Galatasaray.

It’s a credit to him and also to Speakman to for unearthing him and bringing him to the Stadium of Light.

For Hume now, the question is where his next step is best served; whether or not Sunderland remains the best place for his development.

He and several of his teammates are wanted men and it could be that they all have, or most of them have, one more season on Wearside, see how it pans out, and then start to really consider their next step.

If Sunderland go on to struggle under Regis Le Bris, it could commence a clear-out.
