Sunderland fans were very unimpressed with one player’s performance during the disappointing 2-2 draw with Coventry City on Saturday.
Sunderland’s draw with Coventry City at the Stadium of Light feels very much like a defeat for the Black Cats, who had a two-goal lead at half-time owing to wonder strikes from Dennis Cirkin and Wilson Isidor.
Coventry City sacked Mark Robins before this game. But he would’ve been proud of the second half performance, with the Sky Blues deserving of a point in the end.

Sunderland fans blast Aaron Connolly after Coventry City draw
Overall, no Sunderland player really stood out for criticism. But fans on social media have criticised Aaron Connolly for his showing off the bench.
Connolly, who joined Sunderland on a one-year deal earlier this season, replaced Romaine Mundle in the 76th minute and had a couple sights of goal, but couldn’t convert.
One fan said on social media: “Aaron Connolly shouldn’t play for us again he is absolutely atrocious,” another added: “Never sub on Connolly again,” whilst another Black Cats fan said: “I’m yet to see what Connolly offers.”
Connolly came on and moved into the middle, whilst Isidor moved onto the left. One fan said: “Nothing against Aaron Connolly but if we’re going to play him up front on his own, then he’s got no chance of being a success with us.”
Meanwhile, Le Bris brought on Connolly over the likes of left-wingers Nazariy Rusyn and Tommy Watson, with striker Eliezer Mayenda also on the bench.
“I’d honestly have rather seen Ruzyn come on there than Connolly”, one fan said, as another added: “I’d be furious if I was Mayenda not being able to get in over Connolly because he’s potentially the worst footballer I think I’ve ever seen.”

Coming off the bench, Connolly had three touches of the ball and recorded one accurate pass.
He also had one shot on target and ended the game with an xG of 0.24, having now made six appearances in the Championship this season, with no goals or assists.
Sunderland’s draw against Coventry leaves them in 1st place of the Championship table but with Leeds United in 2nd now two points behind, and Sheffield United in 3rd, three points behind and with a game in hand.
