Sunderland’s goalless draw against West Brom on Tuesday was very forgettable. But one player put in a memorable performance.
Sunderland drop down to 3rd place of the Championship table ahead of the Wednesday fixtures, following their 0-0 draw with West Brom at the Stadium of Light.
Regis Le Bris has been criticised by Sunderland fans for his increasingly negative style of play and the Black Cats’ results of late have suffered.
Points have been dropped against Coventry City and Millwall in recent weeks. But there’s one positive consistent: the performances of Chris Mepham.

Sunderland fans in awe of Chris Mepham performance vs West Brom
Sunderland fans already thought very highly of Welsh international Mepham going into the game against West Brom.
But another resounding performance has sparked another wave of praise for the 27-year-old.
Fans on X have described Mepham’s performance against West Brom as ‘brilliant’ and ‘marvellous’, with one supporter saying Mepham is a ‘cheat code’ at Championship level.
Another fan agreed, saying Mepham is ‘too good for this level’. One Sunderland fan added: “Mepham is just unbelievably good, how did we get this guy.”
Meanwhile, one Sunderland supporter said: “Mepham is honestly the best centre-back I’ve seen in a Sunderland shirt in years!”
Another good review of Mepham’s performance from a Sunderland fan read: “Is there a footballer in the Championship that makes playing look as easy as Chris Mepham?
“The lad is outrageously good. It’s not even a debate anymore who the best centre-back in the league is.”

Will Bournemouth recall Chris Mepham in January?
Amid Mepham’s fine form at Sunderland, there’s inevitable fears among Black Cats fans that he’ll be recalled by Bournemouth in January.
Discussing the chances of Bournemouth recalling Mepham, journalist Phil Smith said earlier in October: “I wouldn’t be too concerned at the moment.
“Because ultimately, Mepham’s playing regularly, he’s playing well, and he’s building his value to Bournemouth.”
So far this season, Mepham has featured 12 times for Sunderland and has been a crucial player following his deadline day loan move.
