Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris has given injury updates on Black Cats duo Romaine Mundle and Alan Browne ahead of the Millwall clash.

Romaine Mundle has been one of Sunderland’s stars of the season having so far scored four goals in 15 Championship appearances.

Since Sunderland sold Jack Clarke to Ipswich Town during the summer transfer window, Mundle has really stepped up, with many believing that the former Spurs gem is a better fit for the team than Clarke was.

Alan Browne meanwhile joined Sunderland on a free transfer during the summer, leaving Preston for whom he made more than 400 total appearances.

He’s proved to be a shrewd addition to the side, featuring 12 times in the Championship so far this season.

In the last outing against Coventry City, Mundle and Browne were forced off with injury. During the November international break, Mundle was on holiday abroad which may suggest he was injured and given time off.

Romaine Mundle and Alan Browne injury updates shared

Speaking to the press on Thursday, Le Bris confirmed significant injury blows for Mundle and Browne.

Asked whether the pair are sidelined for a prolonged period of time, Le Bris said: “Yeah, probably. At least six to eight weeks, probably.”

Le Bris confirmed a hamstring injury for Mundle and a leg fracture for Browne, with both players now looking sidelined for the remainder of 2024.

Regis Le Bris not ready to sacrifice Sunderland attacking intent

Despite having a key attacking player in Mundle sidelined, as well as Patrick Roberts suspended for Millwall, Le Bris is not ready to sacrifice Sunderland’s attacking style of play.

During his press conference, Le Bris was asked if he’ll be more defensive against Millwall given the lengthy injury and suspension list at Sunderland.

He simply said ‘No’, adding: “For the mindset of the team, it’s still the same idea. The identity of the team, of the club, of Sunderland… We want to win.

“We want to play fast, use fast attacks when it’s possible with probably less positions, but it’s not a problem for us. We want to score.”

In January, Sunderland now look set to have a handful of players back in contention. As well as Mundle and Browne, all of Jenson Seelt, Ian Poveda, Ahmed Abdullahi, and Salis Abdul Samed could be available for selection from January onwards.
