‘Strenuously denied’: What Sunderland sources are now saying about Patrick Roberts

Reports of Patrick Roberts’ ‘discontent’ at Sunderland have been strenously denied.

That’s according to the Sunderland Echo, who have confirmed that Roberts hasn’t been offered a new deal but claim that there hasn’t been any questions over the winger’s training levels.

Sunderland Nation reported yesterday that the Black Cats had delayed contract talks with Roberts until after the transfer window after the club had become concerned with the attacker’s attitude.

Roberts has now entered the final 12 months of his two-year deal and Sunderland were expected to offer him fresh terms to remain at the club after a successful season in the Championship.

However, the Echo have now claimed that rumours of his declining attitude are ‘wide of the mark’ and Tony Mowbray remains a huge fan of the 26-year-old, who he labelled ‘magic’ last season.

Patrick Roberts has never seemed to have an attitude problem at Sunderland

Patrick Roberts had spent a large chunk of his time at Sunderland stuck on the bench due to other player’s form and he continued to work hard and impress when he got his chance – making talk of his attitude dropping quite a surprise.

The winger is a vital cog in the Black Cats’ attack and, while the least disastrous of the front three, it would be a huge blow if the Wearside club were to lose Roberts this summer.

If Roberts is eager to stay at the Stadium of Light then delaying a new deal for the former Man City man is acceptable, though we want to avoid losing him for free next summer.
