Sunderland’s plans for their upcoming Championship game against Stoke City have been disrupted, after the Potters sacked Narcis Pelach.

Sunderland and Regis Le Bris now have to plan for a game against a managerless Stoke City side on Sunday.

The Potters axed Narcis Pelach after a midweek defeat against Leeds United with the Spaniard lasting just 19 games at the helm.

Stoke sit in 19th place of the Championship table compared to the Black Cats in 4th, after Sunderland drew 2-2 away at Blackburn Rovers on Boxing Day.

Ahead of the weekend, it’s been revealed that Millwall are set to appoint Alex Neil. And another former Sunderland boss could soon be returning to the Championship as well.

Stoke City fans call for Tony Mowbray appointment after Narcis Pelach exit

Stoke City fans have been very vocal about who they want to come in at the bet365 Stadium.

And former Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray is one who Potters fans seem keen on, with Mowbray looking for a return to management after his battle with illness.

“Mowbray would be a great choice,” said one Stoke fan, as another added: “Wouldn’t mind Mowbray.”

Others seem to think Mowbray would be the answer, but only in the short-term. One Potters fan said: “Mowbray probably the only one who can save us and play good football,” and another said: “Short-term fix to keep us in the league is Mowbray.”

But others think Mowbray might be a more medium or even long-term appointment. “I think Mowbray could stabilise us a bit, like he did to Blackburn,” said one fan.

Lastly, one Stoke fan said of Mowbray: “Seems to set things up nicely, plays sensible but watchable football, and develops young players well.”

Who will manage Stoke City for the Sunderland game on Sunday?

It was widely thought that Stoke City would have a caretaker manager in place for the visit of Sunderland on Sunday.

Then on Saturday, the Potters announced that former player Ryan Shawcross will be in charge for the game on Sunday.

Shawcross has worked as a coach with the club for a while now and this is his second spell as caretaker manager this season.

When Stoke will make a permanent hire remains to be seen. Likewise, whether Mowbray is a candidate, and whether he’d be interested, also remains to be seen.
