Sunderland fans have debated one decision that the club’s higher-ups could make.
Sunderland have endured a successful campaign under new boss Regis Le Bris, who has guided the Black Cats to a minimum play-off finish, a remarkable achievement considering the lowly position in which he took them over.
Whilst Le Bris’ man-management has been something of admiration, considering the fact that he has brought the very best out of the likes of Eliezer Mayenda, Chris Rigg and Jobe Bellingham, the improvement behind the scenes is also one that must be noted.
However, Sunderland’s next big decision could potentially split the fan-base, with some very much in favour, however, it is one that could lead to the supporters being less than happy, as some have already vented.

Sunderland fans debate over potential decision to move away supporters
On Wednesday evening, Sunderland confirmed several updates that came from their most recent Supporters’ Collective meeting, which notably brought up the citation involving the away fans position at the Stadium of Light.
Currently, all travelling fans are placed in the upper tier of the North Stand, which offers an allocation of, usually, up to 3,000 to pack out the end.
On X, Sunderland confirmed: “Chief Business Officer, David Bruce announced plans to open discussions with fans regarding the future location of away supporters, stating that any decision taken will be informed by a consultation process with the wider fan base.”
This left many fans debating the situation, including a few who were unhappy that this was being considered, as one suggested they should ‘keep them in the gods. Shouldn’t need to move the away fans to make the atmosphere better.’ Another suggested that the fiasco surrounding the home FA Cup clash with Newcastle United is an example of how it may not work, as one said: “Remember the fume, and rightfully so when we let the mags have the north stand lower. People have very short memories. Keep them where they are.”
Other fans appeared to be in favournof a move however, as one said in responseto fan suggesting they should be placed in the ‘SE corner next to the Roker end’: “It’s where I sit … but you are absolutely right, has to NE or NW corner really. Unless there was a way to do north stand but a thinner section across two tiers like city do.”

Sunderland may not have a choice surrounding away fan position in 2025/26
Much of this debate surrounding Sunderland’s decision on where to locate Black Cats fans may potentially be null and void if the Black Cats get promoted to the Premier League.
Premier League clubs agreed to a new Premier League Rule where away supporters will be seated together at all stadiums, and at least one block of away fan seats will be made available pitchside from the 2017/18 season onwards, and this would be put into action at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland will be hoping to maintain momentum ahead of the play-offs as they face Swansea City at home this weekend.
