Regis Le Bris and Sunderland have picked up their first award of the season after the manager won the Championship Manager of the Month Award for August.

It has been an unbelievable start for the Frenchman who only came into the club in the summer.

Despite Sunderland struggling at the back end of the 2023/24 campaign, Le Bris has quickly turned the Black Cats into a winning machine.

In their first four Championship games, the club has won every one, putting them comfortably top of the league.

As a result, going into the Plymouth game, Sunderland has the chance to become the second-ever Championship team to win their opening four games.

However, after collecting his reward on Friday, Le Bris has quickly set Sunderland a new challenge as supporters continue to dream of the Premier League.

While Sunderland’s start to the season has been excellent, Le Bris has recognised that nothing has been won yet.

There is a long season ahead and the Black Cats cannot afford to rest on their laurels despite their quick start.

As a result, the Sunderland manager has quickly challenged his squad to maintain their form as he states that he wants to win the award again at the end of the campaign.

“I am happy and I am proud because it wasn’t easy to change country and have a new experience like that at this kind of club, which is a big club,” Le Bris explained.

“What I want to share is that the welcome was incredible. Then, the connection with the team, the connection with the staff; the connection with the people in the building was very impressive.

“It is a collective success for me. I would like to have this award at the end of the season because it is a good start but now we need to maintain the level.”

Sunderland now must continue their good form at Plymouth

Going into the Plymouth game, Sunderland must ensure that they get the job done against Wayne Rooney’s side.

If their form can continue after the international break, it helps to prove that the Black Cats are promotion contenders this campaign.

It will no doubt be a tricky task, but if Sunderland can maintain their standards from before the break, they should win comfortably.

Hopefully, Le Bris can ensure these levels are then maintained until the end of the season to secure promotion.
