Regis Le Bris raises ‘consistency’ concern over Sunderland gem ahead of Leeds United clash

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has highlighted one Sunderland gem’s ‘question’ that he must solve.

The Black Cats have endured a brilliant start to the 2024/25 Championship campaign, which has seen several key players step up in contrast to last season, where they finished in a poor 16th place.

Sunderland star player Jobe Bellingham has been praised as being the Black Cats’ best player, and has even been tipped for an England call up alongside fellow midfielder Chris Rigg.

Regis Le Bris’ side’s qualities have certainly been shown in the midfield, however there has been a revelation in Sunderland on the attacking front as the French boss has managed to turn around a side that ended the 2023/24 Championship season as the 8th lowest scorers in the league.

One attacker in particular has been highlighted as a brilliant figure in the side for Sunderland by Le Bris, however the Sunderland coach has highlighted one issue that he must look to rectify.

Sunderland star Romaine Mundle told to answer key question

Sunderland’s attacking qualities have been embodied by the brilliant start to the season by winger Romaine Mundle, who has bagged three goals in eight games.

He has managed to slot in for the departed Jack Clarke, who joined Premier League side Ipswich Town, and replicate, if not improve on the performances displayed by the former Sunderland winger.

Sunderland boss Le Bris has praised the winger, however has raised one issue in his game, as he said, per SkyFootball on X: “We knew before that he [Mundle] has the potential to play as a winger with this ability to dribble, to create and balance in 1v1 situations, to defend with the team as well.

“So far me it’s not a big surprise to assess this level at the minute, but the question is the consistency, he will have this question to solve.

“Is he available to repeat this kind of performance? I think he is able to do that, but he needs to achieve that goal.”

Regis Le Bris must have full belief that Romaine Mundle can solve inconsistency

Mundle’s start to the season saw him bag three goals in a row for the Black Cats in his first three league starts of the season, however in the previous three he hasn’t managed to find the back of the net.

Even though it would have been deemed unlikely prior to the season, Sunderland are now at a point where they have become reliant on the goal scoring abilities of Mundle since his burst into the side, and as a result Le Bris must show full belief and put in extra work to ensure that the winger can continue his goal scoring spree.

The Black Cats will need to ensure that Mundle is firing, and hopefully he can feed off the brilliant start for Wilson Isidor in a Sunderland shirt, as this partnership could easily prove to be crucial in the 2024/25 Championship season.
