Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris raised one potential concern over his side after the defeat to Coventry City.
Sunderland suffered a defeat to Coventry City at the weekend, as Frank Lampard’s side outsmarted Regis Le Bris with a 3-0 hammering for the Black Cats.
The Black Cats were far from their best in the defeat at the CBS Arena, with Le Bris’ side looking incredibly one-dimensional in attack, whilst Chris Mepham notably looked shaky in defence.
The performances in recent weeks haven’t quite been up to previous standards that Sunderland have set, helping them towards 4th in the Championship. After the game, Le Bris raised one concern following the defeat, one that he admits he must ‘analyse’ during the international break.

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris raises questions over ‘behaviour’ and fitness following Coventry City loss
From the first whistle, Sunderland looked second best to Coventry City as Haji Wright skipped on to notch a hat-trick against the Black Cats, with Le Bris’ side doing very little to respond to the onslaught.
After the game, per Sunderland Echo, Le Bris was asked about what the issues with the performance were, to which he said: “It’s hard at the moment to find just one reason to explain the behaviour of the team, so I will have to analyse this.
“I think after the Leeds game our dynamic was broken a little bit, probably our way of thinking about automatic promotion. We played well but didn’t get any points. After the Hull game, we had a good reaction with two wins and a draw, but today we looked exhausted on the pitch. We didn’t look like we had the energy to be competitive.”
It is not the first time that fitness concerns have been raised in recent weeks, as Sunderland fans called for Chris Rigg to be rested previously.

Regis Le Bris substitutions and lack of plan B have played part in one key concern
Whilst Sunderland have undoubtedly over-performed so far in the 2024/25 season, despite recent poor performances, a portion of fans have always had minor reservations about Black Cats boss Le Bris due to his game management in terms of using substitutions and maximising the players in his squad.
Until very recent weeks, Le Bris made it clear that he didn’t intend to widely change his starting side, often putting out an unchanged team in the league.
Unfortunately for the French boss, he is now facing the consequences of over-utilising some players, which can often become an issue if they are younger and more inexperienced, as we have seen to some degree with Rigg.
