Sunderland will be expected to pick up all three points against a Derby side spiralling into a drastic run of form, and are looking behind their shoulders at the relegation spots.

One player that will be certain to feature for Sunderland in the midweek Championship clash is Enzo Le Fee, after Black Cats fans were treated to his debut in the draw against Burnley.

The Frenchman showed plenty of promise in his first outing for Regis Le Bris’ side, however, many fans pointed out that he was potentially not being used to the best of his abilities on the left flank. The Sunderland boss has given his honest thoughts on the midfielder’s debut, as well as any concerns about where he was utilised.

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris admits left-flank ‘wasn’t his best position’ following Enzo Le Fee debut

The Black Cats boss, after being asked about the bolster signing of Le Fee and his first appearance since joining on loan from Roma, was on hand to heap praise on the midfielder, placing much of his emphasis on the ‘versatility’ that he has to offer.

In his pre-match press conference, Le Bris said: “I think it was a good debut, he didn’t play a lot from the beginning of the season. His connection with the team was good. That probably wasn’t his best position, but he is very versatile. He knows how to attack. A good first game.

“It’s important to have these players and versatility. When you have them, it’s good for the coach, we can tweak according to the opponent and choose between different players.”

Sunderland boss Le Bris caused somewhat of a stir in playing Le Fee on the left-flank, with many Black Cats supporters suggesting after the game that he is better utilised in a midfield position.

Currently absent Black Cats duo will help bring the very best out of Enzo Le Fee

Sunderland boss Le Bris was very clear that he doesn’t believe that Le Fee is best utilised out wide, but it is equally important that they have brought in a player that can plug this gap.

Hopefully Sunderland won’t have to wait too long until the full potential of Le Fee is triggered and that will hopefully be when either Tommy Watson or Romaine Mundle return from injury. With either winger slotting back into the side, it will give French boss Le Bris the opportunity to move the new signing back into a central role, where he will hopefully thrive.

Whilst a central role will likely help Le Fee show his full talents, there is no playing down the promise that he showed against Burnley, when played out of position, and there is every hope that he can follow that on against Derby County.
