Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has hinted towards one player being questioned following the defeat to Hull City.
Sunderland suffered their home defeat of the Regis Le Bris reign as Hull City won 1-0.
The Black Cats looked rather toothless in front of goal, and rather uninspiring for yet another clash at the Stadium of Light in a row, following up recent draws against Plymouth Argyle and Watford, where Le Bris’ side weren’t up to their usual tricks.
After not notching a single goal throughout the game, no one was able to spare the blushes of Sunderland shot-stopper Anthony Patterson, who was at the centre of a calamitous moment in the clash as a corner from former Black Cats attacker Joe Gelhardt troubled the goalkeeper, who turned it into his net.
While Sunderland fans have asked questions about Patterson, Le Bris has now had his say on the moment that warrants ‘serious questions’.

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris gives verdict on Anthony Patterson error vs Hull City
Patterson has been on the receiving end of errors throughout the 2024/25 Championship campaign, with the most recent being the most detrimental in his catalogue.
After the game, Sunderland boss Le Bris had his say on the moment that led to the sole goal of the home defeat. Per Sunderland Echo, the French boss said: “It was disappointing to concede like that. In this kind of a game, silly mistakes can change many things. It happened, and for sure, we have to think about these mistakes because we have to improve our game.
“It is not like a coincidence now. I am not saying it is predictable, but at the same time, we have to ask some serious questions. At the same time, I think the energy of the group was okay. We tried, but it wasn’t enough to find a solution.”
The result to a lowly Hull City side now means that Sunderland sits eight points away from 2nd place, with its current holders Sheffield United having a game in hand against fellow promotion chasers Leeds United.

Anthony Patterson errors could give opportunity to rarely seen summer signing
As Sunderland’s automatic promotion chances appear to be dwindling, many fingers have been pointed towards the man in between the sticks.
Whilst there is little direct opposition to Patterson, it could be a possibility that backup keeper Simon Moore may step into the fray in place of the out-of-form man.
Moore was signed as an experienced head in the dressing room this summer, be also joined with a wealth of Championship experience, albeit mostly as a backup.
Nonetheless, his limited game-time with the Black Cats has shown him to be dependable, having notched three clean sheets in four appearances.
This competition could prove to be the wakeup call that Patterson needs to pick up his form, as it is crucial for there to be an alternative to step in for the out-of-form man.
