Sunderland take on Hull City in the Championship this weekend, and it could be a debut for Black Cats’ signing Aaron Connolly.

Aaron Connolly joined Sunderland as a free agent last month, ending his months-long search for a new club.

The former Brighton man was released by Hull City at the end of last season despite scoring eight goals in 24 Championship appearances.

Sunderland fans are excited by Connolly, who’s potentially in line to make his Black Cats debut against former club Hull City this weekend.

Speaking soon after the Irishman’s arrival at the Stadium of Light, Regis Le Bris suggested that Connolly could make his Sunderland debut after the October break.

In his build up towards fitness, Connolly has been in scoring form for the U21s, previously netting on his first start against Derby County’s U21s.

And Connolly was on the scoresheet again on Tuesday night as Sunderland’s youngsters faced Huddersfield Town’s.

Michael Graham makes Aaron Connolly prediction after Huddersfield Town win

On Tuesday night, Sunderland U21s beat Huddersfield Town U21s in the Premier League Cup, with Connolly scoring twice and playing 72 minutes.

He now looks primed and poised to make his debut against former club Hull City this weekend, in what would be an emotional moment for Connolly.

Recently, Connolly spoke out about his personal battles and his determination to succeed with Sunderland, after landing a deal until the end of this season.

And now, journalist Michael Graham has backed Connolly to get himself on the score-sheet against Hull City this weekend.

Graham posted on X:

How are Hull City performing in the Championship under Tim Walter

Hull City sacked Liam Rosenior during the summer, replacing him with Tim Walter.

And following a shaky start to the new season which saw the Tigers go winless in their opening five league games, Walter has the Tigers up and running.

Since the September international break, Hull City have taken nine points from a possible 15 in the Championship.

The Tigers now sit in 13th place of the Championship table compared to Sunderland in 1st.

So Le Bris won’t be expecting an easy game his weekend and nor will Hull City, whose fans might have a keen eye on Connolly should he be included in the side.

Last time Sunderland played Hull City, the Tigers won 1-0 on Wearside. The last time they met at the MKM Stadium, Sunderland won 1-0.

Kick off is at 3pm on Sunday.
