Sunderland stunned fans with their dramatic comeback against Swansea City this weekend, and one player in particular has been getting plenty of praise for his performance.
After going two goals down against Swansea, Sunderland appeared to be heading for a disappointing defeat at the Liberty Stadium.
However, a double salvo from Dan Neil and Jobe Bellingham turned the game on its head and delivered all three points for the Black Cats.
It’s a win that proves Sunderland have the resilience needed to compete for promotion this season, and it was a game that truly showcased what one member of the squad is capable of.

Jobe Bellingham has excelled this season for Sunderland
Regis Le Bris was full of praise for Bellingham’s performance after the game, and he’s not the only one hailing the 19-year-old’s display.
Taking to Twitter/X, Sunderland expert Michael Graham admitted he never saw Bellingham becoming so influential so quickly, and revealed how impressed he has been by the young midfielder this season.
Graham wrote: “I’m wrong about Sunderland frequently and have no problem admitting it. And, I must confess, I didn’t see this season’s level coming from Jobe. Certainly not this early in his career anyway.”
Bellingham registered his third assist and third goal of the season with his contributions against Swansea, and continues to be a leading light in Regis Le Bris’ blossoming young team.

Sunderland have to keep hold of Jobe Bellingham at all costs
As Bellingham thrives, he will inevitably get more and more attention from top clubs around Europe, which can only spell trouble for Sunderland.
We already know Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are looking to sign Bellingham in January, and if offers do come from those clubs, they may be hard to turn down for both Sunderland and the player himself.
Meanwhile, Brentford are also plotting an approach for Bellingham, and it would seem that the teenager is destined for the top flight, be it at home or abroad.
| Statistics | Jobe Bellingham 2024/25 |
|---|---|
| Appearances | 18 |
| Goals | 3 |
| Assists | 3 |
| Shot-creating actions per 90 | 2.72 |
| Pass success | 85.8% |
| Progressive carries per 90 | 0.97 |
Sunderland will be hoping Bellingham rejects those advances and remains at the Stadium of Light for as long as possible, as he is now an absolutely crucial cog in Le Bris’ team.
Indeed, if Sunderland can achieve promotion this season, Bellingham’s stay on Wearside could last a lot longer. Failure, however, could see their star man move on very soon.
