The dust has settled for Wilson Isidor after his double penalty miss for Sunderland in the 0-0 draw against Burnley last time out. But the Frenchman will surely remember that game for a long time to come.
Sunderland missed the chance to close the gap in the Championship standings on Friday night, following their 0-0 draw against Burnley at Turf Moor.
Regis Le Bris’ side will feel they should’ve won the game after dominating for large parts, with Clarets boss Scott Parker relived with a point in the end.
Wilson Isidor missed two penalties in the second half with Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford killing time as Isidor was readied to step up, with his antics clearly getting in the mind of Isidor.
After the game, Le Bris praised Trafford’s actions and defended the Sunderland players’ decision on the pitch to let Isidor take another penalty. Then after the game, Isidor shared a message with Sunderland fans, which has now come under fire.

Marco Gabbiadini blasts Wilson Isidor for ‘nonsense’ Sunderland message after Burnley
Isidor looked distraught after missing those penalties against Burnley. He left the pitch almost in tears with players from both sets of teams consoling him as he made his way off the pitch.
His message afterwards described that day as the ‘worst day’ of his life. But speaking on Total Sport, former Sunderland man Marco Gabbiadini says that Isidor’s message and the whole show of emotion after the game was a bit much.
Gabbiadini said: “He doesn’t need to apologise to the fans for missing two penalties, that’s nonsense to me. But I think it’s part of the modern situation with social media and things.
“Fair enough if you say, ‘Hold my hands up, two poor penalties’… I’m just looking back at some of the pictures now, head in his hands crying with tears almost. I just think that’s a bit too much.”

Gary Bennett really wasn’t impressed with Wilson Isidor vs Burnley
Isidor has certainly gotten a mixed reception from fans following that Burnley game: many commended his bravery to take another penalty whilst others felt it was a selfish decision.
Gary Bennett shared the same opinion as the latter. Bennett criticised Isidor after the Burnley gam saying that the 24-year-old put himself before the team by taking that penalty.
He said: “For me, Wilson Isidor looks at that penalty decision [and says], ‘It’s about me. I’m going to score. I’m going to be the one who gets the winning goal.’ It’s not about him, it’s about the team itself. It’s about winning the game. It’s not about me me me.”
Gabbiadini’s verdict now throws a bit of fuel on the fire, though with another game coming up on Tuesday night against Derby County, fans will quickly move on. Kick off is at 7:45pm.
