A player who left Sunderland just last summer is now set to be on the move again, after what’s been a difficult first half of the 2024/25 season.
Sunderland are proving to be quite ruthless in their handling of players, often cutting ties with those who aren’t going to prevail.
Players get their chances, but if they don’t take them then they’re shipped off, with Sunderland tipped to sell Nazariy Rusyn in January in what is another example of that.
Others like Abdoullah Ba and maybe even Adil Aouchiche could be next, though Aouchiche has impressed for Sunderland of late and could turn his time on Wearside around.
Last summer, Sunderland sold Jack Clarke to Ipswich Town in a £20million deal, which proved to be the big player departure at the Stadium of Light going into this season.
There were several loan exits, a number of players released, and a few who were sold, including Elliot Embleton.

Elliot Embleton on the move just five months after Sunderland exit
Sunderland fans have a lot of time for Embleton. The Black Cats academy graduate scored in the League One play-off final and boasted a lot of potential in the Championship, though injury often held him back.
In August, Blackpool signed Embleton for an undisclosed fee. He’s featured 15 times in League One for Blackpool this season, claiming just the one assist, with no goals to his name.
But the 25-year-old hasn’t played in any of the Seasiders’ last five now with former Sunderland boss Steve Bruce not favouring Embleton at Bloomfield Road.
Alan Nixon has revealed on his Patreon that Embleton is joining Carlisle United on a three-year deal.

What Steve Bruce has said about Elliot Embleton’s Blackpool situation
Bruce is slowly getting Blackpool back on track after a tough first part of the season which saw Neil Critchley sacked as manager.
The Seasiders sit in 15th place of the League One table but Embleton will now join a Carlisle United side who sit in 23rd place of the League Two table.
Speaking to Blackpool Gazette about Embleton’s recent spell outside the squad, Bruce said: “I’ve got four or five who weren’t on the bench (against Birmingham, last game) because we’re getting everyone back fit, and unfortunately Embo hasn’t been part of the squad.
“It’s difficult for him. We don’t have many natural wide players so we’ve had to juggle that around, and that was the big decision I made. I thought it was essential and it’s what we’re doing.”
Embleton is wasting no time in searching for regular game time. For Carlisle in League Two, Embleton feels like a very impressive signing, and if he can find form then he could yet help keep them in the Football League.
