Sunderland ace Chris Rigg has shared the internal aim for Regis Le Bris’ side as the Championship season approaches the business end.

Following Sunderland’s 1-0 win at West Brom on Saturday, they next face Norwich City on Tuesday evening as they look to make it three victories on the bounce.

Regis Le Bris’ side ran out victors at The Hawthorns thanks to full-back Trai Hume’s stunning free kick strike as they defeated former head coach Tony Mowbray.

Sunderland were forced to be resolute in defence, with the Baggies enjoying the lion’s share of possession, but failed to threaten Anthony Patterson too often.

The Black Cats have a 250-mile round trip ahead to Carrow Road on Tuesday, and midfield starlet Chris Rigg has revealed the squad’s “motto” for the remainder of the Championship campaign that will fill supporters with excitement.

Chris Rigg reveals Sunderland’s motto for Championship run-in

Sunderland sit fourth in the Championship table ahead of the Norwich clash, enjoying a 15-point buffer on the below play-off hunting pack, but still far adrift of the title-chasing trio above.

With Sunderland’s season seemingly in a state of a limbo, the aim for the Black Cats now is to build momentum during the run-in ahead of the play-offs. Patterson adamantly admitted that they aren’t “scared of anyone” around them.

Following the Baggies win, Rigg shared the Black Cats’ “motto” heading into the run-in. Rigg told Sunderland’s media: “We don’t stop until the season is over, that’s our motto in the changing room.

“We need to keep going, keep fighting and show teams how good we really are because our performances haven’t really been as good, as we have been, but if we keep picking up three points there’s no harm in that at all.”

Sunderland’s fixture list for rest of 24/25 season

It seems a matter of time before Sunderland’s play-off fate is made mathematically secure, but they also have the opportunity to keep the pressure ramped up as cracks appear in the league’s three title-contenders.

Leeds have drawn their last three outings and have now dropped out of the automatic promotion spots ahead of the midweek fixtures. Sheffield United themselves slipped up at the weekend with a shock 1-0 defeat on the road at Oxford United.

Sunderland’s upcoming clash against Norwich will not be an easy task, especially with 17-goal Borga Sainz to deal with, but is certainly a fixture Le Bris’ side will be expecting themselves to win.

Remaining fixtures against the likes of Blackburn, Oxford and QPR offer definite chances for the Black Cats to keep increasing their points tally. With the pressure off regarding their likelihood of staying in the top-six, and the high-flyers above them starting to falter with the final hurdles in sight, Sunderland’s automatic promotion hopes are not finished just yet.
