Championship boss brilliantly namechecks Sunderland star when asked about the best players in the league

Sunderland’s 2024/25 showing so far has earned praise from many. Now, a Championship manager has picked out one particular Black Cats star for praise.

Sunderland remain in 4th place of the Championship table despite back-to-back defeats in the Championship, marking the first time it’s happened under manager Regis Le Bris.

On Monday night, Leeds United and Sheffield United go up against each other at Bramall Lane. A win for Leeds would take them 13 points clear of Sunderland whilst a win for the Blades would put them in 1st, and 11 points clear of the Black Cats.

A draw might be the best result for Sunderland. But Le Bris may have an eye over his shoulder on teams who might make a late run for the top six, and potentially threaten the Black Cats’ spot in the play-offs.

If Sunderland’s poor form continues then they could quickly be battling for 6th instead of top two. One such team who could make a late burst is Norwich City, whose manager Johannes Hoff Thorup is a fan of Wilson Isidor.

Norwich City manager hails Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor

Norwich City claimed a 4-2 win over Stoke City on Saturday. Canaries hitman Josh Sargent struck twice to take his season tally to 11, just days after being linked with a potential summer move to Leeds United. After the game, Thorup was asked if Sargent is the best striker in the league.

Sargent has 11 goals and five assists in just 20 Championship games this season. But when asked if Sargent is the best striker in the league, Thorup played down the idea, and instead pointed towards Isidor following his impressive goal in the 2-1 defeat against Leeds United earlier in the month.

Thorup told Pink Un: “It’s so, so difficult to say. We have to have respect for the strikers at the top of the league at the moment, scoring a lot of goals. I saw the Sunderland striker [Wilson Isidor] the other day scoring a goal away against Leeds that is also top quality. There’s many, many good strikers in the league.”

The truth behind Leeds United’s interest in Wilson Isidor at Sunderland

Soon after the game at Elland Road, Leeds United were linked with Isidor. Since then, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has spoken to Sunderland AFC News to give us the lowdown on the interest.

Alarmingly, Bailey confirmed that there’s growing transfer interest in Isidor with the likes of Spurs and Crystal Palace also mentioned alongside the 24-year-old Frenchman.

Bailey said: “Isidor won’t be leaving Sunderland if they go up. No chance. But if they fail to win promotion, you can’t rule it out.

“There is interest from a number of Premier League clubs in him, they are watching and like what he has done. Leeds just one to take an interest.”

With Isidor garnering praise from rival managers, it shows just how good he’s been so far this season. But it could take a very large sum to tempt Sunderland into selling their new star man in the summer, especially given the fact that strikers remain thin on the ground at the club.
