Sunderland goalkeeper has discussed his defensive colleagues, praising Dan Ballard and Luke O’Nien for their solidity and leadership.
23-year old keeper, Patterson signed a new long-term deal earlier this season. His new contract will keep him at the Stadium of Light until 2028.
Several Premier League clubs had shown interest in the youngster but his desire to play for his boyhood club was the decision he made.
Ballard and O’Nien play in front of him. This solid defensive trio has formed a great base for Tony Mowbray to build on.

What has Anthony Patterson said?
With less than a goal a game conceded and four clean sheets this season, the Sunderland backline has been strong so far.
Patterson has praised those in front of him for that, picking out O’Nien and Ballard: “They are great leaders in there and are both great defensively
“They are doing a great job in front of me. We’ve formed a good partnership there.”
With that being said, the whole back line has performed well in shutting out opposition attacks.
With Trai Hume and Niall Huggins, the Black Cats have a youthful look. So far it has been very effective nonetheless.
Discussing the back four, Patterson said: “All the way across the back we’ve got great leaders. There is a lot of talking, plenty of organisation of course.
“I think it’s just a collective team effort really of working really hard and keeping them away from our goal.”
A great start to the season, in terms of results but especially defensively with all five combining to great effect.
