Manchester United grabbed a point at Anfield thanks to another Amad Diallo goal, and the former Sunderland star has been attracting more praise from fans.
Sunderland enjoyed a very happy Sunday indeed thanks to a 1-0 win over Portsmouth at the Stadium of Light.
The result saw Regis Le Bris’ side close the gap on their Championship rivals at the top of the table, and the Sunderland manager’s tactical gamble paid dividends as the Black Cats’ attack thrived once more.
But, on the other side of the country, Amad Diallo was proving once again how far he has come since his Sunderland days, with a crucial goal at Anfield for Man United.

Amad Diallo grabs a point for Man Utd vs Liverpool at Anfield with late goal
United had led the game thanks to a Lisandro Martinez goal, but Liverpool replied through a Cody Gakpo goal and a Mo Salah penalty.
However, with ten minutes to go, Diallo popped up with his sixth goal of the season to rescue a point for Ruben Amorim’s side, and he had fans on Twitter/X lavishing praise on him once more.
Diallo has now scored away at Manchester City and Liverpool this season, as well as getting a goal and an assist at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, too, leading one supporter to claim, “[he] is the definition of a big game player.”
Another United fan said, “Amad Diallo is truly stepping up, future star in the making.” Meanwhile, there were demands for Old Trafford chiefs to hand the Ivorian star a “20 year contract”.
Sunderland fans were getting in on the love-in, too, with one Black Cats supporter posting: “I know that loan to Sunderland improved Diallo and he was unplayable there, but as if Ten Hag loaned him out to waste millions on Antony.”
Another added: “Diallo was nowhere near the player he is today, he was an 18-year-old kid playing senior football for the first time properly. He learned a lot at Sunderland and he’s just gotten better as he’s developed.”
One Mackems supporter even claimed Amad Diallo was “made in Sunderland.”

Man Utd star Amad Diallo was ‘made in Sunderland’
Of course, Diallo started his career at Atalanta before making a big money move to Manchester United in 2021. But, there can be no denying that the young forward truly started to flourish as a player when he linked up with the Sunderland squad in the 2022/23 campaign.
Diallo himself highlighted the impact of Tony Mowbray on his career, and Sunderland fans clearly still hold the 22-year-old close to their heart to this day.
The positive is, Diallo’s success proves Sunderland can nurture young talent effectively, and it is thought that could lead to other Premier League clubs offering their best youngsters to the North East outfit.
