Sunderland’s revolution under Regis Le Bris continued on Saturday as they achieved their third Championship victory in as many games with a 1-0 victory against Burnley.
The Black Cats have shown no signs of slowing down under the Frenchman as they blew away promotion-favourites Burnley at the Stadium of Light.
Romaine Mundle scored the only goal of the game with a fantastic strike midway through the first half to ensure the hosts came away with all three points.
While many players have returned to form under Le Bris, Sunderland fans were quick to highlight Patrick Roberts’ performance against the Clarets, with many calling it a ‘masterclass’.

Sunderland fans hail Patrick Roberts ‘masterclass’ in Burnley victory

Against Burnley, Roberts was on fire. The winger covered the majority of the pitch and consistently caused issues for the visitors.
Roberts even picked up the only assist of the match as his scuffed shot deflected to Mundle before his teammate guided the ball into the back of the net.
On top of this, the 27-year-old was highly impressive in multiple other areas. According to WhoScored, Roberts had a total of four shots as well as a dribble success rate of 67%.
The Sunderland man even helped out defensively, performing five tackles throughout the match.
As a result, fans were quick to take to X, formerly Twitter, to praise Roberts for his performance.
Many supporters were equally impressed by how quickly Roberts has returned to form for Sunderland after a poor end to the 2023/24 campaign.
Patrick Roberts’ form crucial for Sunderland’s promotion push
While it is too early in the season to predict where Sunderland will finish in the table, all signs so far point towards a promotion push.
Fans have long dreamed of a return to the Premier League and their performance against Burnley suggests that they are right in the mix.
However, if the club are going to mount a promotion push, their players must continue their form, especially Roberts.
With Jack Clarke likely to depart Sunderland in the coming days, Roberts may be more important than ever.
Hopefully, the winger continues to improve under Le Bris to help continue the club’s wonderful start.
