Keith Downie hails Sunderland ace as a ‘real handful’ after Norwich City win, it’s not Jobe Bellingham

One Sunderland ace has been highlighted after his brilliant showing against the Canaries.

The Black Cats ran out as 2-1 victors in their recent win against Norwich City at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland found themselves down by one goal, however, goals by Dan Ballard and Jobe Bellingham helped Regis Le Bris’ side towards a well-needed win to help cement their spot towards the top of the league table.

It was an impeccable showing by Le Bris’ side, who had to weather the storm of a feisty game in Wearside, as seen by Borja Sainz’s antics in the first half, as well as the red card handed to Norwich City defender Jose Cordoba.

The ability to fight back just showed how far Sunderland have come under Le Bris, with many stars shining that didn’t get a look in last season, including one that has been described as a ‘handful’ following his performance against the Canaries.

Sunderland attacker Eliezer Mayenda praised by Keith Downie following win against Norwich City

Black Cats attacker Eliezer Mayenda was utilised by Le Bris on the left flank for the opening 30 minutes until he switched flanks with fellow winger Patrick Roberts.

After not the most convincing first half for Sunderland, the Spaniard notched an assist for Ballard’s header, and did impeccably well to cause trouble for the Canaries defence.

Keith Downie was at the game, and he recognised the efforts of the teenager, who said, per X: “Mayenda looks a real handful whether wide or through the middle, the back 4 are solid…but Regis Le Bris seems to have good options & players playing well all over the pitch.”

Sunderland fans must be aware of the age of Eliezer Mayenda

At times, it can easily be argued that Mayenda isn’t the most consistent, and is fairly regarded as quite a streaky player for the Black Cats.

However, fans can often forget that the Spanish attacker is still only 19-years-old, and is very early on into his Black Cats career.

Whilst he can sometimes tend to be quite a frustrating player for the Black Cats, he clearly has the potential to be a top player, and there is no doubt that he was a real handful when at his best against Norwich City.
