Sunderland team news ahead of Hull City clash

The Sunderland squad is getting stronger all the time, with hardly any lingering injury issues still remaining now.

Both Romaine Mundle and Alan Browne were back in the matchday squad for Monday’s game against Leeds United, though neither made it onto the pitch. Still, there’s every chance they will now be involved at the weekend after months on the sideline.

Meanwhile, Jayden Danns arrived with an injury when he signed on deadline day, but should be a matter of days rather than weeks away from returning to full fitness.

Likewise, Tommy Watson was scheduled to be back in training this week. The Hull game may come a little too soon for him, but there’s a small chance he will make the bench.

Aji Alese is now the only long-term injury, with the defender missing the rest of the season.

Sunderland vs Hull City head-to-head record

Throughout the years, Sunderland have a pretty healthy record against Hull City, with 24 wins for the Black Cats compared to just 16 for Hull, and 11 draws in between.

Sunderland have lost just one of their last seven meetings with Hull, both home and away. That said, four of those games were draws, including a thrilling 4-4 deadlock back in 2023.

Sunderland predicted to beat Hull City

Sunderland are widely expected to win this weekend against Hull, but it won’t be easy — no game in the Championship ever is.

The Black Cats have found that out the hard way, when they dropped points to Plymouth Argyle at home just a couple of weeks ago despite their opponents being at the bottom of the Championship table.

Pundits believe Sunderland will deliver a ‘resounding’ response and get the victory they need to keep their promotion hopes alive.

We back the Mackems to get the job done, too. It will be a close game, with Hull giving it everything they’ve got as they fight to keep their head above water in the relegation battle. Sunderland should come out on top with a gritty 2-1 win.
