Sunderland have been urged to sign one ‘determined’ youngster who has Premier League ‘potential’.
Sunderland are only weeks away from the summer transfer window, though it remains unclear who will be helping conduct their business by then.
The Black Cats will need to get their manager search done and dusted though, as their transfer activity this summer is extremely important.
The club remain without a proven goalscorer and have already lost one of their only experienced players in Corry Evans.
With Jack Clarke likely to leave, Sunderland desperately need someone who can provide the goals, otherwise they face a bottom half finish once again.
While fans are eager to see the club bring in someone with plenty of Championship experience, they have now been urged to continue their pursuit of a 19-year-old striker.
The Wearside outfit were said to be leading the race to sign West Ham’s Divin Mubama, who has rejected a new contract with the London club.
Mubama picked up 32 goal contributions in 39 matches in all competitions during the 2022/23 season, but failed to earn himself an opportunity in the senior team.
With the teenager on his way out, the founder of We Are West Ham podcast, James Jones, has heaped praise on Mubama and has urged Sunderland to snap him up.
Divin Mubama and Sunderland would be a perfect match
When asked by the Sunderland Echo whether he would be a good signing, Jones said: “Yes I do. He needs to leave West Ham and play regularly to match his potential. There is no doubt he has got potential.
“From what I’ve seen of him, I see him as definitely a player who needs a spell in the Championship before maybe establishing himself in the Premier League, maybe at a bottom half Premier League club.

“I think he’s better off leaving West Ham and Sunderland would be a really good fit for him if he can go up there, start every game and really develop his football.
“Leaving for any club in the Championship or even League One would be a good move for him and I think he’d be a good signing, if you give him the opportunity to play. If he’s just going there to sit on the bench then I don’t think it would do him any good.”
Sunderland fans shouldn’t be put off by Mason Burstow
Sunderland fans may well have been put off by the idea of bringing in a unproven striker from the Premier League, with Mason Burstow’s season being extremely underwhelming.
However, it appears Mubama is at a much higher level than the former Sunderland loanee and could well have been pushing for first team football in the top flight in the coming years.
The Black Cats shouldn’t be deterred from the idea because of Burstow though, because they have purchased from Premier League academies before and it has come out much more successful.
In fact, they have already bought from West Ham twice, with Pierre Ekwah and Aji Alese racking up almost 100 appearances between them.
Mubama could be an excellent bit of business for Sunderland, though there is no doubt that they would still have to sign a proven Championship striker too.
