Sunderland are yet to properly kick off their transfer business since Regis Le Bris’ appointment.

Simon Moore became their first summer signing last month, one day before the Black Cats coach arrived at the club.

Sunderland are expected to make a number of key signings before the season begins, but fans are still waiting for the board to make any major changes to their first-team squad.

There is a lot of uncertainty around a number of positions in the team, with the likes of Jack Clarke, Dan Neil and Anthony Patterson all attracting interest from Premier League clubs.

The club are hopeful of keeping hold of the latter two though, with Moore expected to act as an understudy and a mentor to Patterson.

While the 24-year-old is expected to stay, it hasn’t stopped Sunderland from looking to further bolster their goalkeeping department.

Sunderland hand trial to former Stoke City gem

According to journalist Alan Nixon, the Black Cats have given former Stoke City goalkeeper Blondy Noukeu a trial.

The Cameroonian joined the Potters academy in 2019 but failed to make a senior appearance for them before he was released at the end of the season.

Noukeu spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Southend United, where he was hailed as ‘unbelievable’ as he picked up four clean sheets in 13 matches in the National League.

The 22-year-old is now without a club, but is hoping to win himself a contract at the Stadium of Light during his trial period.

Do the Black Cats really need Blondy Noukeu?

Given Noukeu’s age, it is surprising that Sunderland are considering snapping him up.

Patterson is comfortably number one, while they have already brought in another back-up option in Moore.

They also have the likes of Adam Richardson and Matty Young as younger options, who could potentially pick up some game-time in cup competitions.

Noukeu is unlikely to earn himself a place in the first-team squad if he is signed, while it would be surprising if he wanted to join another Championship club where he is unlikely to make a single appearance.

Fans will wait to make their judgement though, and will be keeping a close eye if he is still around to feature in Sunderland’s pre-season campaign.
