Sunderland ‘very much trying’ for another signing after Romaine Mundle and Callum Styles

Sunderland are still ‘very much trying’ to bolster one key position before the deadline.

Sunderland made defender Leo Hjelde their first signing of the transfer window earlier this week, before adding Romaine Mundle to their roster today.

The Black Cats already look to be closing in on their third arrival, with Callum Styles now back in negotiations over a loan with an obligation-to-buy move from Barnsley.

Time is very quickly running out for the club to conduct any further business, but it seems that their failed attempts at signing Kieffer Moore may not be the end of their striker pursuit.

Taking to X, journalist Michael Graham said: “#SAFC still very much trying to get a striker deal done. Up against it now though. Won’t be a good look at all if they fail to land a senior centre-forward again.”

It appeared that Moore was their first-choice target in that department, having lodged a loan bid for the Bournemouth striker earlier in the window.

Moore looks set to join Ipswich Town on loan now though, leaving Sunderland with very few options to bolster their frontline.

Is this another disastrous transfer window?

It is definitely disappointing that we have now gone almost three transfer windows without signing an experienced striker – if you don’t count Joe Gelhardt.

However, it doesn’t feel quite as disastrous as it has previously.

While our current crop are still far from what we really need, the likes of Nazariy Rusyn and Mason Burstow do seem to be improving, with the pair both getting off the mark this month.

While I do think we will cope for the rest of the campaign, it is still extremely poor from the board, who really need to address their failure to land a proven striker – months after receiving £10 million for Ross Stewart.
