Sunderland set for busy ‘two hours’ after confirming multiple loan ‘outgoings’

Sunderland have had a very hectic transfer deadline day so far.

The Black Cats are yet to make any further additions and have only confirmed two loan exits, but there has been names thrown around left, right and centre.

Sunderland are believed to still be ‘on track‘ to sign two new midfielders, with Chris Mepham also on the verge of a loan move to Wearside.

Their search for a new striker remains uncertain, with fans becoming increasingly frustrated by their failure to sign a new No.9.

Sunderland journalist issues promising update

Despite a lack of signings on deadline day so far, journalist James Copley believes incomings are now ‘imminent’.

He wrote on X: “Two hours to go klaxon… announced outgoings more than likely mean imminent incomings. Strap in.”

Sunderland’s ‘imminent’ signings could well just be Mepham, Salis Abdul Samed and Milan Aleksic.

Fans won’t care about signings if a striker isn’t one of them

While they look to be good additions, there is no excuse for not bringing in a new forward and that will be the main focus and a huge criticism.

Phil Smith has also claimed that Ahmed Abdullahi is still ‘very much a target’, but the Nigerian has mostly played youth football and doesn’t feel like much of an improvement on the several teenage strikers the club signed last summer – all of whom really failed to impress over the course of the campaign.

A ‘busy’ transfer deadline day isn’t necessarily a good one if the club hasn’t brought in the signings required.

While Sunderland have looked brilliant in the early stages of the season, there will surely come a point where their lack of firepower becomes very obvious and the board will be blamed for not bringing in a new striker.

They still have just short of 90 minutes, but it is once again looking very concerning for the Black Cats.
