Sunderland could now move for ‘terrific’ Prem ace to end striker woes in January

Sunderland are likely to have been made ‘aware’ of a Premier League striker coming on the market this month.

Sunderland are desperately looking to bolster their attack in the January transfer window, with Nazariy Rusyn being the first of their forwards to score a goal this season only days ago.

The Black Cats sold Ross Stewart to Southampton in the summer, and brought Nazariy Rusyn, Luis Hemir Semedo, Mason Burstow and Eliezer Mayenda in in his place.

Their frontline was full of youth and a lack of experience, which has since been reflected in their lack of goals.

Rusyn’s goal against Preston North End at the weekend brought an end to the humiliating goal drought, while the other four have zero goals and ten starts in the Championship between them.

Sunderland are now on the hunt for yet another striker as they look to improve their chances of reaching the play-offs, and The Sun have suggested they could be among a number of clubs chasing Kieffer Moore.

After scoring 20 goals for Cardiff City, the Wales international joined Bournemouth in January 2022, but managed only three minutes of action before breaking his foot.

Moore was sidelined for two months before making a dramatic comeback at the end of the campaign, netting four goals in four games to secure promotion to the Premier League.

The ‘terrific’ forward has bagged five goals in the top flight but has really struggled for game-time this term, failing to earn a single league start due to the form of Dominic Solanke.

The Sun have now reported that Bournemouth are open to letting Moore leave this month, but his staggering £40,000-per-week wages mean a loan is the most likely outcome.

The report claims that his former club Cardiff are believed to be ‘pushing hardest’ for his signature, but the likes of Middlesbrough, Leeds United, Ipswich, West Brom, Birmingham and Sunderland could all be interested.

Should Sunderland try to sign Kieffer Moore?

Given that he has settled in Bournemouth and was born in Devon, Kieffer Moore may favour a move not too far away from his home on the south coast.

However, that certainly shouldn’t prevent Sunderland from giving this one a try.

The Black Cats really need to bring in an attacking, proven goalscorer, and that is exactly what Moore is.

There really isn’t many attackers around this month and, if the Cherries agree to pay part of his wages, Moore could be the difference between sitting outside the play-offs and potentially winning promotion.

Sunderland will face huge competition for his signature, but it is a battle they need to be involved in.
