Sunderland are expecting a massive transfer window this summer as they prepare for the 2024/25 season, with plenty of comings and goings expected.
It is a massive summer for Sunderland. After their playoff hopes collapsed in 2024, the Black Cats need to ensure they bounce back for the upcoming campaign.
A new permanent Sunderland manager has now been appointed, with Regis Le Bris taking over in the Stadium of Light dugout.
Therefore, it is likely that the incoming boss will make changes to Sunderland’s first team to suit his style and needs.

Transfers in
Sunderland announced their first signing of the summer at the end of June as they brought in goalkeeper Simon Moore. The 34-year-old joined from fellow Championship side Coventry City and signed a two-year deal with the option of a third.
Alan Browne became Sunderland’s second signing of the summer after the Black Cats captured the experienced midfielder after his contract expired at Preston. The Republic of Ireland international signed a three-year deal.
Ian Poveda was added to the Sunderland squad in late July. The winger joined on a free after his contract expired at Leeds United. The Colombian signed a three-year deal with the option of another.
Blondy Nna Noukeu was another goalkeeper who joined the Sunderland team this summer. The 22-year-old signed a two-year deal at the Stadium of Light after he was released from Stoke City.
Wilson Isidor joined Sunderland on loan in late August. The forward left Zenit on a season-long loan with the Black Cats holding an option to buy.
Transfer out
Goalkeeper Alex Bass made a permanent move away from the Stadium of Light when he signed for League Two side Notts County.
Elliot Embleton departed Sunderland to return to Blackpool in August after a series of terrible injuries for the Black Cats.
Jack Clarke was finally snatched up in late August as newly promoted Ipswich brought the winger for a fee which could rise to £20 million.
Out on loan
Goalkeeper Nathan Bishop completed a season-long loan move to Wycombe Wanderers in June.
Midfielder Jay Matete was sent out on loan again for the 2024/25 campaign as he joined League One outfit Bolton Wanderers for the rest of the season.

Releases
Corry Evans has been released at the end of his contract. The midfielder was at Sunderland for three years and helped oversee their promotion back to the Championship where he captained the side.
Ellis Taylor has been released after his contract expired. The Sunderland academy graduate made five first-team appearances for the Black Cats
Jack Diamond has been released by Sunderland after his contract expired. The winger spent the second half of the season on loan to Carlisle.
Bradley Dack’s career at Sunderland also came to an end after one year. Sunderland decided not to activate his one-year contract extension and he therefore departed at the end of his contract.
Outside the first team, Sunderland has also confirmed that Ben Creamer, Callum Wilson, Connor Pye, Daniel Obolo, Harry Gardiner, Jayden Sekete, Joe Ryder, Kailem Beattie, Michael Spellman and Thomas Chiabi will depart the academy this summer.
Loan deals expired
Callum Styles’ loan deal is set to expire at the end of the season. Sunderland has the option to buy the attacker at the end of the deal. However, no decision has been officially made and he has returned to Barnsley with the Black Cats retaining the option to buy Styles permanently.
Mason Burstow’s loan deal is set to expire at the end of the season. There is no option to buy the attacker at the end of the deal and the youngster returned to his parent club.
Academy signings
Ivan Struk joined the Sunderland academy on July 1. The youngster was initially on trial at the Black Cats at the start of the 2023/24 campaign. However, he has now officially left Chelsea and signed for Sunderland.
Bayley Hester joined the Sunderland academy on July 1 joining from Southampton.
Marcus Neill became a Black Cat on July 1, joining from Liverpool. He has already represented Sunderland’s Under 16 and 18s sides.
