Sunderland are set to miss out on the signing of Charlie Lindsay.
That’s according to DerbyshireLive, who have reported that Derby County are set to complete a deal for the midfielder this week.
Lindsay enjoyed a brilliant season with Rangers’ B team last season, where he registered 18 goal contributions before he was released by the Scottish giants.

Sunderland and Derby were first linked with the 19-year-old in May before the likes of Blackburn Rovers, Hull City and Huddersfield Town all joined the pursuit.
However, Lindsay has spent the last two weeks on trial at Pride Park and how now looks set to complete a permanent move to the League One outfit.
The teenager is initially set to link up with their U21 side but could be handed the chance to break into the first-team as the Rams look to win promotion to the Championship next season.
Sunderland probably couldn’t have given Charlie Lindsay first team football next season
It is unclear whether Sunderland ever made a concrete move for Charlie Lindsay, though it seems unlikely they would have been able to make the promises that Derby County could have.

The youngster will look to force his way into the first-team set-up in League One next season, though Sunderland’s huge quality at the top end of the pitch would have made that very difficult for him.
The Black Cats already have a number of young stars in Isaac Lihadji, Jewison Bennette, Chris Rigg and others that will be given their own chance to shine next season and someone like Lindsay may not be a main priority right now.
Tony Mowbray’s side remain on the lookout for Amad Diallo’s replacement following his return to Manchester United, however they will need someone a lot more experienced than Lindsay to take on the huge responsibility of filling the Ivorian’s boots.
