Sunderland could now keep hold of Jack Clarke this summer despite Burnley interest.

Burnley have completed the signing of Aston Villa winger Aaron Ramsey after they had multiple bids rejected for Clarke.

The Black Cats attacker netted nine goals and provided 12 assists in the Championship last season after signing for the club permanently.

His brilliant form led to rumours of his departure, with the Clarets eager to lure him back to the Premier League.

Vincent Kompany’s side made a flurry of bids for his signature, with the latest offer of around £13 million instantly turned down.

While Burnley were expected to continue their pursuit of Clarke, it looks like their interest may now have ended after they snapped Ramsey up for £12m.

The 20-year-old enjoyed loan spells with Norwich City and Middlesbrough last season, bagging a total of eight goals and four assists.

Burnley have now added Ramsey, Zeki Amdouni, Wilson Odobert, Michael Obafemi, Luca Koleosho, Nathan Redmond and Jacob Bruun Larsen to their attack – so it would be a big surprise if they made a late attempt at landing Clarke.

Burnley could have made a difficult transfer window even worse if they had signed Jack Clarke

Fans were originally left concerned when Burnley expressed interest in signing Jack Clarke, though their underwhelming bids were laughable.

If the Clarets had managed to reach the winger’s valuation however, then there would have been major concerns on Wearside.

The club are already really struggling to bring in a striker and to lose one of their best players would have been a huge blow.

There would be absolutely no chance Sunderland could have replaced a player of Clarke’s quality – especially with just over a week left of the transfer window.
