Sheffield Wednesday have joined the race to sign Everton’s Tom Cannon.
That’s according to The Mail+, who have reported that the Owls are the most recent club to express interest in the striker.
Cannon has caught the eye of a number of Championship clubs following a successful loan spell with Preston North End.
The 20-year-old netted eight goals during the second half of last season in what was his first real taste of senior football, resulting praise coming from all angles.

While fans and pundits applauded Cannon, even their opposition was impressed with him. Following the Lilywhites’ draw with Hull City in February, Liam Rosenior said: “I thought Tom Cannon was outstanding, one of the best we’ve played against by far.”
Sunderland were reportedly weighing up a £3 million bid for Cannon earlier this month, however it is believed that they were priced out of a move and would be forced to sell players in order to fund their pursuit of the youngster.
While Sheffield Wednesday could now also look to approach the Toffees, Cannon looks increasingly likely to re-join Preston North End after he was spotted at their pre-season friendly at Deepdale at the weekend.
Sunderland need cash if they are going to bolster their attack
While relatively inexperienced, Tom Cannon was excellent for Preston last season and has certainly earned the praise and interest that he has received this summer.

With Ellis Simms already leaving Goodison Park for around £8 million, it comes as no surprise that Sunderland’s £3m was far from their valuation of Cannon.
If a forward that has only played Championship football for four months is going to cost upwards of £3m then the Black Cats are going to struggle to bring anyone in unless they are willing to open their wallet further.
Sunderland need back-up for Ross Stewart and they can’t just keep settling for loan deals.
