Regis Le Bris has spoken in his first press conference after joining Sunderland last month.

The Frenchman was named as the Black Cats’ new head coach less than two weeks ago, before travelling to the Academy of Light for pre-season preparations over the weekend.

Training kicked off on Monday as the team get ready for a new season in the Championship, with Le Bris’ start to life on Wearside set to be a busy one.

He has now spoken to the media following his arrival and has answered the questions that have been on many fans lips since he was named as Michael Beale’s successor.

Many supporters’ concerns following an underwhelming campaign was with the age of the squad, with Sunderland offloading a number of their experienced players.

Le Bris was asked whether the Black Cats would be looking to bring in more experience and it appears they are looking to change up their transfer policy.

Regis Le Bris wants more experience in the Sunderland squad

Speaking to the media, Le Bris said: “I’m comfortable with this process now. We don’t know the results because this his part of our work is very complex.

“I’m comfortable with the process and of course, the team is young, but as I said, the two previous seasons, even with younger players that they gained some experience. So I think it’s useful for the next events.

“But also we are thinking about one or two more experienced players who know very well the Championship, who have high standards on the way of training and the way of playing and the ability to pilot the team during the game. This kind of players could be young or could be older.

“So we have all these ideas in our brain and then we have a whole market. It’s very difficult, very confidential also.”

The Black Cats need to sign Oliver Norwood

The addition of Simon Moore last month offered fans a hint that they would be looking to bring in some more experienced, quickly followed by their reported interest in 33-year-old Oliver Norwood.

Moore is currently the only player on Wearside who is in his 30s, while Luke O’Nien and Patrick Roberts are two of the oldest.

Bringing in older players for the sake of it isn’t what Sunderland want, but snapping up players such as Norwood, who has 381 appearances in the Championship to his name, could be a huge boost.

The veteran has also featured 97 times in the Premier League, while he has four promotions to his name.

There will be plenty of interest in Norwood, but Kristjaan Speakman would be making a real statement if he can lure him to the Stadium of Light on a free transfer.
