Regis Le Bris is still waiting to make his first signing since joining Sunderland last month.
Le Bris was named as Michael Beale’s successor a couple of weeks ago and went onto conduct his first interview with the club over the weekend.
After giving fans a sneak peak of his ambitions at Sunderland, he was straight back in front of a camera for today’s press conference.
The Black Cats are eagerly waiting to see what the club’s next moves will be after a rough 2023/24 season, with many concerns aired over the current transfer policy.
Sunderland offloaded a number of their older players last season, as well as making some underwhelming signings in the likes of Luis Hemir Semedo and Callum Styles.
Tony Mowbray was one manager who wasn’t keen on his lack of involvement in the transfer business, while it was suggested that that was a reason why many head coaches had turned them down over the past few months.

Le Bris insists he is ‘working together’ with Sunderland
Le Bris was keen to move to Wearside though and has now been asked how involved he will be with Kristjaan Speakman’s transfer dealings.
Speaking to the media, the Frenchman said: “We have some meetings everyday about the team. The club wants to understand my game and the way I can assess the players and also on the other side, because they know very well all the players.
“They bring me some information and we are working together. Then we will train, and it’s a very important step because some players could an answer to a training method and others don’t respond the same way. So we need to experience together maybe two weeks, three weeks, to see how it will evolve.”
Have the Black Cats changed their transfer policy?
While it is fair to say Le Bris will need a few weeks to get a better understanding of his team, waiting around for transfers is something that hasn’t worked in Sunderland’s favour previously.
There will be a number of players available for a limited amount of time, such as free agents, who the Black Cats need to make moves for if they are to avoid missing out.
Le Bris does suggest that he will have some say in signings though, which is a huge relief after recent transfer windows.
The 48-year-old managed to develop some really talented players during his time in France, so fans will hope he can do that again with his own additions.
