Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris looks to have indicated that one rarely-used man is set to leave the club.
Since Regis Le Bris took his role at Sunderland, it has been clear that several players weren’t part of his immediate plans.
The summer window saw several players loaned out, as Pierre Ekwah joined St Etienne, Timothee Pembele moved to Le Havre, whilst Nectarios Triantis sealed a loan to Hibernian, as well as many other moves.
Some players who weren’t in the Sunderland boss’ plans continued their stay at the club, but were given very little opportunity to impress the Frenchman, including Abdoullah Ba, who moved on to Dunkerque in the January window after not being utilised in the Championship.
Another player that has been exiled by Le Bris is speedy winger Jewison Bennette. The French boss was asked about the Costa Rican’s future at the club, with there being plenty of indicators that his time at the club could be drawing towards a conclusion.

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris confirms likely Jewison Bennette departure
So far in the 2024/25 campaign, Sunderland attacker Bennette is yet to notch a single minute of action under Le Bris, alternatively being utilised for the U21’s.
The writing has been on the wall for a while in regards to the 20-year-old’s future on Wearside, and it now looks like that is coming to an end.
Ahead of Sunderland’s clash with Sheffield Wednesday, Black Cats boss Le Bris was asked about the attacker’s future and whether he was likely to leave, to which he said: “Yes, but I don’t know exactly if [the deal] is done or not at the moment. The connection exists.”
When asked as to whether he was in contention to play, Le Bris responded simply by saying ‘no’, and whether he was involved in the decision, he said ‘yes’.
Bennette looks set to join Ukrainian side LNZ Cherkasy after a deadline day move to Charlton Athletic fell through.
Jewison Bennette showed promise that should have warranted more opportunities
Looking at Bennette’s spell in Sunderland, many fans will simply say ‘what if?’.
He arrived with bags of potential, and in glimpses, showed this after being in-and-out of Tomy Mowbray’s team, bagging a goal against Watford in a 2-2 draw.
What could have been a massive positive for Bennette on his arrival at the club turned out to be the main reason he was sidelined.
The fact that Sunderland have placed so much priority on youngsters should have worked in the Costa Rican’s favour, but he fell so far down the pecking order of the Black Cats’ surplus young attackers that the writing has been on the wall for some times, and it is no surprise to see him set to depart from Wearside.
