West Ham have no rights to re-sign Pierre Ekwah ahead of any other clubs.

That’s according to ExWHUEmployee, who has claimed that the Hammers didn’t insert a buy-back clause into his contract.

Ekwah became the second West Ham youngster to join Sunderland in recent years when he penned a four-and-a-half year deal in January 2023.

The midfielder endured a shaky start but has since gone from strength to strength, making 21 appearances in the Championship and also netting twice at the weekend.

Ekwah got tails wagging as his exceptional performance during Sunderland’s 5-0 win over Southampton was broadcast on Sky Sports, with his opener going down as an own goal before he claimed a brilliant rocket of a goal shortly after.

There were a number of reports claiming Ekwah could have left the Black Cats on transfer deadline day and West Ham supporters have begun to question whether they could bring him back to the club in the future.

ExWHUEmployee has now provided an update on the 21-year-old’s contract details.

West Ham don’t have first say on potential Pierre Ekwah transfer

Speaking on The West Ham Way podcast, he said: “We inserted a few items into the deal that saw Ekwah depart for Sunderland.

“Firstly there is a 35% sell on clause which is significant. There are also appearance related payments. So when he plays 20, 40, 60 games etc we received additional monies.

“There is however no buy-back clause unfortunately. So West Ham have no rights to sign the player back ahead of any other clubs.”

Sunderland fans will be delighted by the fact they won’t have to lose Ekwah for a low fee if they decide to sell him.

The club will certainly have no intention of letting the Frenchman leave anytime soon, though if the day comes then they could make a huge profit. Ekwah is definitely capable of eventually ending up at a very big club and Wearside is the place for him to become that brilliant player.
