A Sunderland player now looks set to seal a permanent exit from the club this summer.

Sunderland were widely tipped to see several first-team players leave this summer, yet only Alex Bass has sealed a permanent exit from the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats’ first-team squad is brimming with young stars and several Premier League clubs have taken an interest in several of Sunderland’s young stars.

The likes of Jack Clarke and Jobe Bellingham among a handful of others have had links to the Premier League; most recently, Leicester City have taken an interest in Pierre Ekwah.

But Kristjaan Speakman and the Sunderland owners have stuck by their valuations of players.

None are yet to leave the club and all are under longer-term contracts.

With a few weeks left of he summer transfer window, we could yet see some big-money player exits.

But the next permanent player exit looks set to be a smaller-scale one, with Elliot Embleton seemingly nearing the exit door.

Sunderland man Elliot Embleton undergoes medical with EFL side

Embleton seems to be surplus to requirements at Sunderland after injury curtailed his season on loan at Derby County last time round.

Now, it’s been revealed that Embleton has undergone a medical with League One Blackpool ahead of a proposed permanent switch to Bloomfield Road, after recent reports revealed Blackpool’s interest in Embleton.

The 25-year-old central midfielder spent time on loan with the Seasiders during the second half of the 2020/21 season where he scored twice in 21 League One outings.

Embleton was recently linked with MK Dons, with a summer exit having looked probable for some time now.

Roker Report revealed the news of Embleton’s Blackpool medical.

The best outcome for Elliot Embleton and Sunderland this summer

Embleton, after his impressive 2021/22 season, was on a definite upwards trajectory with Sunderland.

But he became a rotational player for the club, and injuries prevented him from getting back on track with Sunderland or with Derby County last season.

His goals tally from midfield speaks for itself though; 11 in 92 first-team appearances for Sunderland, with 11 assists as well.

In League One, Embleton has proven that he can do a job, and Blackpool is a club he already knows well, so he should hopefully settle in quick.

For Sunderland, offloading Embleton seems like good business; it’ll ensure the likes of Chris Rigg get game-time next season, in what is a pretty well-stocked central position for Le Bris ahead of next season.
