Yet another Sunderland star has been rumoured with a Premier League move as Trai Hume becomes the latest player to be linked away.

It has been an up-and-down start to the season for Sunderland but they currently sit in ninth, just three points off the play-offs.

Under the tutelage of Tony Mowbray, the Black Cats have become a good Championship side while making clever, shrewd signings.

In recent transfer windows, the signing of young talents on cheap deals have been opted for and have worked a treat so far. Just this season, signings like Jobe Bellingham have been an undoubted success at The Stadium of Light.

With that being said, the success of these stars sees clubs come sniffing around for their signature. Jack Clarke has been one key example who Sunderland took a chance on and has been a top signing. This week has seen another name be linked away…

What has been said about Trai Hume?

Trai Hume has had a great season having started every game under Mowbray so far this campaign. This has seen him register just two goal involvements but it is the defensive side of his game that stands out more.

According to TEAMtalk, there is interest from several clubs in the Premier League and Championship that are looking to sign him.

On that, it has been said: “TEAMtalk sources have told us that Premier League side Burnley, along with Championship promotion contenders Leicester and Leeds, are looking closely at Hume.”

It is safe to say that if one of these clubs were to come in the prospect of potential Premier League football would be a big factor. With that being said, in years gone by Sunderland have been in and amongst the playoffs so promotion isn’t so far from them either.

How good has he been?

Looking at his FotMob percentiles, Hume has been one of the best fullbacks around in many aspects. In terms of defensive actions and aerial duels. With 96% and 95% respectively, it is safe to say that he has been great in a defensive sense.

This doesn’t take away from his attacking side necessarily as his goal tally sees him rank in the top 61%, not too bad realistically.

His versatility makes him a top asset, paired with his age and his performances in recent weeks, Mowbray and Sunderland won’t want to let him go.

Although the prospect of playing in the Premier League may be a tempting offer for the Northern Irishman, you would like to think that Sunderland can keep hold of him until the summer at least.
