Sunderland have enjoyed a positive end to the winter transfer window, and it looks like the club will get at least one more deal over the line.
The transfer window slams shut at 11pm and for Sunderland, it’ll be the end of a rather turbulent winter transfer window.
January was extremely quiet for the Black Cats. But their transfer plans burst into life ahead of deadline day with the club completing a move for Leeds United defender Leo Hjelde, and today signing Romaine Mundle from Standard Liege.
Callum Styles has also been linked over the past few weeks. It looked like that move had gone cold but Styles’ links to the Stadium of Light were reignited this morning.
And now, journalist Alan Nixon has confirmed on X that Sunderland are set to complete a deal for the 23-year-old:
Sunderland backing Michael Beale with late transfer flurry
It’s not been an easy few weeks for Sunderland.
Boss Michael Beale has come under extreme pressure after just a few weeks in charge, but it seems like the Sunderland owners are now backing him in the transfer market.
Hjelde, Mundle, and now hopefully Styles; three very strong signings for the Black Cats, although it looks like yet another transfer window where the club have failed to bolster their striking options appropriately.

There’s still time, but it looks like Beale will have to make do with his current options, so finding a way to get the Black Cats scoring more regularly will be his main challenge now.
They showed their attacking prowess in the 3-1 win over Stoke City last time out, but a trip to Middlesbrough this weekend will be a much tougher task.
