Fulham have confirmed that Neeskens Kebano has left the club amid Sunderland links.

The Cottagers offered Kebano a new contract last month after his contract expired, but the midfielder has now ended his seven year stint in West London.

Sunderland were previously interested in signing the 31-year-old, according to Africafootunited. The Black Cats are eager to strengthen their midfield and were looking to add more experience to their youthful squad.

A move for Kebano looked off the cards when it was confirmed Fulham were looking to keep hold of him, however the DR Congo international is now available on a free transfer.

Kebano became a fan favourite during his time at Craven Cottage, with Tony Khan claiming the midfielder was an ‘important part of the Fulham family’ and was ‘adored’ by the Fulham supporters.

Despite Sunderland’s previous interests, reports have claimed that Kebano could now be set to join UAE club Al Jazira as he seeks regular first team football.

Should Sunderland try to sign Neeskens Kebano?

Sunderland’s interest in Neeskens Kebano came as a big surprise to supporters given their current transfer policy of bringing in relatively young players to build for the future.

The veteran’s reported move to Al Jazira won’t be much of a disappointment for the Black Cats, who haven’t missed out on much in their pursuit.

Kebano impressed during his time at Craven Cottage as he helped them win promotion to the Premier League twice, though he is far past his best and it seems a strange decision to bring him to the club at this age.

The African was also thought to be earning around £30,000 with Fulham – around double the wage packet of the likes of Jack Clarke and Patrick Roberts.

While the Wearside club definitely need to add some more experience to their squad, they also need to ensure there is plenty of quality there and Kebano’s arrival wouldn’t be a very inspiring one.
