Sunderland have added a new striker to their transfer wishlist ahead of January, and it’s another young gem playing out in Europe.

Sunderland’s January transfer plans could soon burst into life, less than a week before the winter window officially opens for business.

So far, much of the talk has been about players potential leaving Sunderland in the New Year, with Jobe Bellingham being eyed by some top teams around Europe, and others attracting interest.

Dan Ballard is linked with a Premier League move for example, whilst the likes of Anthony Patterson and Chris Rigg have ongoing links to the English top flight.

Ahead of the Black Cats’ Boxing Day trip to Blackburn Rovers though, Sunderland have been linked with Glen Kamara at Rennes, who could potentially move to the Stadium of Light on loan in January.

And the former Leeds United midfielder is now joined by another emerging Sunderland transfer target in Yannick Agnero.

Sunderland linked with Yannick Agnero move ahead of January

Sunderland look as though they could be in the market for a new striker in January, with Wilson Isidor’s goals having dried up of late.

And an emerging report from European outlet 225Foot has claimed that Halmstads BK striker Yannick Agnero is someone on Sunderland’s transfer radar.

The 21-year-old Ivorian striker has scored four goals in 11 Allsvenskan games for Halmstads this season, having joined from Danish outfit Nordsjælland in the summer.

Sunderland are thought to be ‘keeping a close eye’ on Agnero who ‘has suitors in Europe, particularly in England’, ahead of the January transfer window.

Sunderland fans all in agreement over the club’s striker situation

Isidor has faced criticism in recent weeks, as the Frenchman’s early goal spree fully comes to an end.

The Zenit loan man hasn’t scored in seven Championship games now. Perhaps more alarming though is the fact that he remains the club’s top scorer in the Championship this season with five goals.

Regis Le Bris lacks an out and out scorer, and Sunderland fans think a new striker signing is needed in January.

But links to Agnero highlight the same old Kristjaan Speakman problem in signing a striker: he never signs one with proven Championship ability.

Aaron Connolly broke that mould somewhat, but he’s failed to hit the ground running. Agnero may be an exciting player but he’s another one for the future.
