Sunderland could part ways with another player in the coming hours – but this time on loan.

Sunderland have already waved goodbye to Alex Pritchard this morning, while recent reports have claimed 18-year-old Josh Robertson is on his way to Brighton & Hove Albion.

While there has been little talk of any big moves regarding the likes of Jack Clarke, the Black Cats could instead offload one of their fringe players on loan.

According to Sunderland Echo journalist James Copley, Nectarios Triantis will now leave the club until the end of the season.

Writing on X, he said: “On Nectar Triantis: Hibs have been interested all summer (loan), which had been quashed by Sunderland earlier in Jan.

“Manager Nick Montgomery worked with the player at Central Coast Mariners. Added defensive reinforcements mean a deal could be there to be done now.”

Copley has now added: “Sounds like this one is very close to happening now – if not already done.”

Is this the right idea for Traintis’ future?

The arrival of Leo Hjelde very quickly put Nectarios Triantis’ future in doubt.

The defender arrived at a similar time to Jenson Seelt, but it is the Dutchman that has forced his way into the starting line-up and could well prove to be an important player for the remainder of the campaign.

While Hjelde has been brought in to fill in for the injured trio at left-back, the eventual returns of Aji Alese and Dennis Cirkin should see him used across the backline – thus pushing Triantis further down the pecking order.

The 20-year-old was always going to take a while to adapt to English football and it makes sense to send him out on loan to gain some experience and potentially have a more positive impact next season.
