Sunderland’s academy has produced some top young talent in recent years, and Liverpool are very interested in signing Trey Ogunsuyi, which is bad news for the Black Cats.
Among the Sunderland first-team, the likes of Jobe Bellingham and Chris Rigg are hot property, with a number of top teams keeping tabs on the club’s young stars.
But, even outside of the senior squad, there is a slew of exciting talent coming through the ranks leaving Regis Le Bris with plenty of options if he wants to call on the next generation.
Trey Ogunsuyi has now been hailed as the next potential superstar to emerge from the Sunderland academy, but he might not be around for long.

Liverpool have a history of signing top teenagers in recent years
He hasn’t even made his debut yet, but Liverpool are ready to make a move for Ogunsuyi in the near future after his impressive start to the season for the Under-21s.
The Anfield outfit missed out on signing the young striker on a scholarship before he joined Sunderland, and are reportedly keeping a close watch on his progress.
But, while Sunderland may have won the battle for Trey Ogunsuyi, history tells us Liverpool will end up winning the war for his signature in the long-term.
In the recent past, Liverpool have snapped up the likes of Rio Ngumoha, Trey Nyoni, and Amara Nallo from Chelsea, Leicester City, and West Ham, proving they are not afraid to raid English clubs for prestige young talent.
Whether Ogunsuyi will be next on that list remains to be seen, but Sunderland fans will likely be fearing the worst when it comes to their hopes of keeping hold of the Belgian striker.

Trey Ogunsuyi has to make his Sunderland debut in the next month
Ogunsuyi is yet to make his debut for Sunderland, but he has been on the first-team bench a number of times already this year.
We would expect Ogunsuyi to get his chance in the FA Cup against Stoke City in the New Year, if not sooner, and when he does, he may well end up making such an impact that he doesn’t return to the youth team.
Indeed, Tommy Watson’s success must have opened the door for Ogunsuyi to be trusted by Regis Le Bris soon.
But, Ogunsuyi does need to improve in certain areas still, it’s just a matter of whether he does that at Sunderland, or with Liverpool.
