Social media was sent into a frenzy last night as Amad Diallo clinched Manchester United’s spot at Wembley – with Sunderland fans taking a particular interest.

Manchester United had decided against sending Amad Diallo back out on loan in January and he was expected to play more of a role in the senior team for the remainder of the campaign.

However, the Ivorian had only managed 63 minutes of action in all competitions since returning from injury after Christmas.

Both Sunderland and Manchester United fans were left disgraced that Erik ten Hag refused to give him a chance, even when they were playing the likes of Newport County in the FA Cup fourth round.

Two rounds later though and Amad was given a brief cameo in the quarter-final clash with Liverpool, with the Red Devils 2-1 down at the time.

Antony went onto equalise just before full-time, before extra-time goals from Harvey Elliott and Marcus Rashford took it to 3-3.

The two teams looked set for penalties until Amad was put through by Alejandro Garnacho and was given the opportunity to take his club to the semi-finals at Wembley Stadium.

The midfielder tucked the ball into the bottom corner of the net, pulled off his shirt and sent the Manchester United fans into hysterics.

He was then sent off for taking his shirt off, but the supporters certainly didn’t care, and it wasn’t just United that were absolutely buzzing for Amad.

Sunderland supporters have shown plenty of love for the 21-year-old since his hugely successful loan spell on Wearside, while he has continued to reiterate his love for the club too.

There has been plenty of frustration as to why he wasn’t allowed to return to the Stadium of Light when he was barely getting played by Ten Hag, but to see him become the hero at Old Trafford last night really made a lot of us smile.

Here is some of the social media reaction from the Black Cats…
