One Black Cats castaway may have staked a claim for a first team spot after his cameo vs Norwich City.
Sunderland came out as 2-1 victors in their recent win against Norwich City, which saw Regis Le Bris’ side come back from a goal down.
The Black Cats needed a response following a lacklustre first half showing, which saw Borja Sainz take centre stage with his antics. Following the interval, Sunderland came out firing on all cylinders, with Dan Ballard bagging a goal to get Le Bris’ side back on level terms.
Following Ballard’s header, Sunderland put the pressure on the Canaries, and it finally paid off through a goal courtesy of Jobe Bellingham.
Sunderland didn’t look to sit back following the winning goal, with Le Bris making changes to continue their onslaught on Norwich, with Adil Aouchiche being one man that was brought on.
The Frenchman hasn’t been given much of a chance under Le Bris, however, his career may have turned after his recent performance.

Adil Aouchiche may have turned around Sunderland career with substitute cameo vs Norwich City
Black Cats midfielder Aouchiche notched just his fourth Championship appearance of the 2024/25 season against Norwich City, with the Frenchman being handed just 29 minutes of action prior to the clash with the Canaries.
It was always expected that Aouchiche was gonna be handed limited action in this campaign, considering that it was also the case at FC Lorient under Le Bris.
However, following an assist in the draw against Bristol City to set up Patrick Roberts, as well as his cameo from the 84th minute onwards against Norwich City, he could easily be within a shout of more game time for Le Bris’ side.

Adil Aouchiche stats vs Sunderland highlight promise of the midfielder
Aouchiche’s cameo was somewhat limited in regards to game time, but he still came on and made a significant impact in the dying embers, as, per SofaScore, he managed to make five accurate passes out of six. He also played one key pass to help set up Eliezer Mayenda for a clear cut chance, however it came to nothing.
For just a 15 minute cameo, Aouchiche certainly didn’t disappoint, and it could easily open up an opportunity for more minutes, especially with him having the potential to provide a similar creative spark that Bellingham and Chris Rigg are able to show on the pitch.
It has been a slow Sunderland career for Aouchiche to be honest, but there are no doubts about his quality. It is just now down to Le Bris to give him the opportunities he certainly deserves.
