Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray has given a worrying injury update ahead of their clash away at Leicester City.

The Black Cats are preparing for a double gameweek, facing Leicester on Wednesday evening before hosting Norwich City on Saturday afternoon.

So they will need as many players fully fit to cope with three games in seven days, following last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Stoke City.

Being posted on the club’s X account (formerly known as Twitter), manager Mowbray has said that some players did not train with the first team on Monday.

“There’s three or four players who didn’t train today – we’ll see how they are ahead of the game.”

Sunderland injuries mounting

This will be worrying news for Sunderland fans ahead of arguably their toughest game of the season so far.

Leicester are flying high in the Championship, sitting top of the table after twelve games, winning eleven of those. They are also on a seven game winning streak, so it will not be easy for Mowbray’s men, and more injuries will certainly not help their case.

Sunderland already have injuries to Corry Evans, who’s expected to be out until the new year receiving from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, along with Ajibola Alese, Dennis Cirkin and Jay Matete, who are all expected to be back next month.

The post suggests that the three or four players that did not train on Monday were not including any of those aforementioned players, so it could be worrying times for Mowbray with a lot of games coming up in quick succession.
