Amad Diallo wrote himself into Sunderland folklore during the 2022/23 season. Now, he’s quickly becoming a favourite at Manchester United.
Already this season, Amad Diallo has featured 12 times in the Premier League for Manchester United, scoring once and claiming five assists.
It’s been a prolonged journey into the United starting XI for 22-year-old Diallo who joined in a £37million deal from Atalanta way back in 2020.
After a slow start, he burst to life during a loan spell with Sunderland in the 2022/23 season, scoring 14 goals in 39 Championship outings as the Black Cats reached the play-offs.
Since, Diallo has often been linked with a return to Sunderland. But he’s now an important player for the Red Devils and new manager Ruben Amorim.
The Black Cats faithful still have a soft spot for Diallo, though, and the feeling is clearly mutual with Diallo often watching Sunderland games in the Championship.

Mark Goldbridge’s eight-word verdict on Amad Diallo during Arsenal vs Manchester United
United were last in action on Wednesday night. They played Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium but eventually lost the game 2-0.
Diallo came on at half-time and immediately looked up for the battle. On the night, Manchester Evening News said Amad was ‘United’s most threatening forward’ and that he ‘should have started’.
Manchester United pundit Mark Goldbridge echoed that verdict, too, posting during the game: “Get the ball to Amad. It’s that simple.”

Amad Diallo’s Manchester United future remains uncertain
Diallo is out of contract in 2025 though United have the option to extend his stay by a further year, and no doubt will do so.
But speaking before the Arenal game, Amorim painted a sightly uncertain picture over Amad’s future at Old Trafford.
Amorim told the press: “I think he wants to stay and we want him to stay, so that is clear and we will find a solution.”
His numbers this season speak for themself. Five assists in 12 Premier League games is no easy feat, and the way he performed after coming on against Arsenal, and the way he transformed the game, shows how much ability he already has.
It’s no longer a question of potential with Amad and he now just needs to be given the trust he deserves in the Premier League.
Sunderland fans will surely keep an eye on his progression, and Kristjaan Speakman may even have an ambitious eye on his situation at United.
